Worked out some of my mic issues. I tried to play Sailor's Hornpipe real
fast but I had to slow it down. Cindy Cashdollor rips this up on the her
video.

I think my backing tracks have improved a bit. Played with mi microphone a
bit. It's amazing how much difference a couple of inches make.

I guess it's a good thing money is tight or I would of gone and bought a new
microphone and it would probably be about the same.

I've got a couple of songs done with my Supro Lap Steel but I'm still not
real happy with them. I need to find some SUPER simple material to work on.

Methinks you are a bit of a dark horse. As you say, the hornpipe is a bit
slow, but very importantly, it is on time and in tune.

I'm just listening to "Love in vain". Killer rendition. I've been working on
it for weeks, I'm sure I can get some useful ideas from your version. I'm
guessing that this is part of your long term repertoire, to which you are
now adding more recently acquired acoustic slide skills?

Thanks for the reply. You reinforced my need to speed up Hornpipe. I tried
it at Cindy's speed and just couldn't pull it off at all. She does it around
95 BPM and I slowed it down to 85. Of course she sounds effortless and I
sound like an amateur but I keep telling myself I've only been at this for a
little over a year now. On the timing; I have no choice because I always
start with my mechanical drum tick and build from there. I'm never pleased
with the end results. I was going to take that post back but I accidently
sent it through anyway.

Funny thing about LIV is I don't remember learning it and I'm trying to do a
different version. It's in the "Slide Guitar Book" Hal Leonard publisher.
Every time I try to play the tab version I think of a Rolling Stones version
and revert back to it because it was so fun to play. When I was in my 20's
we had a bunch of tunes we used to do that kind of stuck. One of my projects
is to seriously sit down, do the backing tracks and put the correct Dobro
solos in.

If you're interested I could e-mail you the tab. It's in Open G.

You're doing very well for someone who has only been playing slide a
short while, and I wouldn't worry too much about the speed thing, you
already have the two key elements.

I was playing along with LIV a few minutes ago, it won't take me long
to figure out your dobro licks <g> I've been doing that for a while
now. What I am more interested in is converting some of your non-dobro
stuff to acoustic slide, things like the intro. I will probably end up
doing it in open D, to get the low Em chord on the last line.
